Sam stepped out of university to take up an apprenticeship, experiencing the practical side of engineering and finding her true career call. Returning to university part-time later, she has now worked in engineering for 30 years across paper manufacture and then nuclear. She enjoys the diversity of an engineering career, applying knowledge and standards to so many varied applications.
Passionate about promoting STEM, Sam has championed engineering since she was an apprentice herself. Winner of the Young Woman Engineer of the Year award and later the WISE Excellence Award, she has used her platform to encourage young people, particularly women, to explore the exciting opportunities engineering offers.
Having held numerous roles across the IET, including Trustee, Council member and various board and committee roles, Sam is committed to using her governance experience and wealth of IET knowledge to contribute to the IET strategy. She is passionate about attracting, retaining and supporting women in engineering at all stages of their careers.
